Kateri was a word in progress for about 18 months. Through the encouragement of a promoter Julie began recording the project in Nashville, and although she was satisfied with the progress of the work's instrumentation, she felt the presence of Jesus in the project was not as powerful as she desired. The musicians were very good, but the producer was going the wrong way with it. She needed to make a change.

She left Nashville with a half-finished project and prayed that God would lead her in a different direction. Some months later she met with representatives from Gaither Studios (Indiana) and knew she had found the right people. The entire process of selecting the songs was made much easier as she looked over lyrics about real-life situations. They seemed to jump out of her writing folder and say, "I belong on this project". Using the instrumental tracks recorded in Nashville, she created this album entitled, Kateri.
